ODA reports early Olympic successes

In July 2008, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) committed itself to achieving ten key milestones by 27 July 2009. (The Olympics will start on 27 July 2012.) According to its recent publication, the ODA has achieved all ten milestones ahead of schedule.

The ODA now plans to set itself further, key targets in time for 27 July 2010.

It makes a change to be able to report some good news, at a time of extreme hardship for some in the construction sector. On this occasion, the ODA has been able to report:

  • The completion of substantially more elements of the build than had been anticipated. For example, ten bridges are structurally complete against a target of seven: see milestone 2.
  • The completion of some key works stages ahead of schedule. For example, completion of the velodrome foundations in May 2009: see milestone 6.

While some of the ways the construction information is being handled by the ODA must be down to its effective “news management”, it reports genuine and continuing progress on the ground.
